What is an ESLOCK file?

An ESLOCK file is an encrypted file created by ES File Explorer File Manager, an Android file management app. It contains another file, such as a .JPG photo, .MP4 video, or .DOCX document, that a user chose to lock within the app to restrict access. ES File Explorer applies encryption and changes the extension of the file to .eslock so other apps or standard file viewers cannot read the contents.

More Information

When a file is locked, ES File Explorer typically renames it to a string of letters and numbers and appends the .eslock extension (for example, asd496gfr04.eslock). The original file type is preserved internally but hidden by the encryption process.

The app manages encryption and decryption using a user-defined password, allowing users to protect private files stored on their devices. Before Google removed the app from its store, Android users commonly used this feature as a simple way to secure personal data without relying on full-device encryption.

How to open an ESLOCK file

You can open an ESLOCK file with ES File Explorer File Manager, and the correct password that the user applied when locking the file. The app decrypts the file and restores it to its original format.

If ES File Explorer is no longer available or the password is forgotten, access can be difficult or impossible, as the encryption is designed to prevent unauthorized recovery. However, you may be able to use a third-party recovery tool to decrypt ESLOCK files, such as Roosters Lab ESLock File Recovery or Piotr Kniaz ESLockDecryptor.
