What is a CMTP file?
A CMTP file contains a patch that modifies the appearance of a character in the Super Mario 64 video game. It stores information about a character patch, such as a new costume for Luigi or a Santa hat for Mario, in the proprietary CometCHAR Mod Patch (CMTP) format.
More Information
Super Mario 64 is a video game for Nintendo 64, a gaming system released in the 1990s. Retro gamers use emulation software to play old video games on their computers.
In the case of Nintendo 64 games, gamers dump the ROM game data from the game cartridge onto a computer and store it as a file, such as a .Z64, .N64, or .V64 file. The gamers can then play the files with emulation software, such as Project64 or Mupen64.
GlitchyPSI developed the CMTP format to modify characters' appearances in the Super Mario 64 game. Gamers can create CMTP patches with CometCHAR and patch them into Super Mario 64 Z64 files.
How to open a CMTP file
You can open a CMTP file to patch it into Super Mario 64 with CometCHAR. To patch a CMTP file, open your legal Z64 ROM file in CometCHAR, open the CMTP patch file, choose the save location and name of the new Z64 ROM file, then select Patch.
After patching the Z64 file, you can now open and play Super Mario 64 with the patched modification with a Nintendo 64 emulator that supports Z64 files, such as Project64 or Mupen64.
