What is a CHARINFO file?
A CHARINFO file is a virtual avatar, known as a Mii, included in a Nintendo Switch video game. For example, the game Miitopia includes several CHARINFO files. Players are not meant to open or edit CHARINFO files.

Miis are avatars and NPCs that appear in some Nintendo video games. For example, the Switch games Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Miitopia all contain Miis that players can play as.
These Nintendo Switch Miis are saved in the CHARINFO file format. Typically, CHARINFO files are saved with the .charinfo file extension. However, some CHARINFO files (such as those found in Mario Golf: Super Rush) are instead saved with the .mii extension.

How to open a CHARINFO file
CHARINFO files are not meant to opened or edited. Those who have modified their Nintendo Switch to use homebrew firmware can use MiiPort to import or export CHARINFO files from their Switch.
