What is a BMTP file?
A BMTP file is a project created by the Classic and Pro versions of Bome MIDI Translator, a MIDI and keystroke mapping tool. It contains various information about a project, including MIDI input and output ports, MIDI thru connections, presets, and metadata, such as the version and name of the author. MIDI Translator users save projects as BMTP files to preserve their progress.
More Information
Bome MIDI Translator allows you to map keystrokes and MIDI controls to control apps on your computer solely through a MIDI controller. This functionality is helpful to various types of users, including musicians, lighting engineers, theaters, and DJs.
When using the software, you can create mappings between the MIDI controller and specific functions on your computer, then save the project as a BMTP file. After saving your progress, you can close the project and then reopen it for further modification.
How to open a BMTP file
You can open BMTP files with the Classic and Pro versions of Bome MIDI Translator. The Pro version is available for Windows and macOS, but the Classic version is only available for Windows. To open a BMTP file with either version, select File → Open.
Since BMTP files store information in plain text, you can also open them with a text editor, such as Microsoft Notepad (Windows) or Apple TextEdit (macOS). However, viewing the BMTP file with a text editor will not appear the same as with the MIDI Translator software.
How to convert a BMTP file
The Classic and Pro versions of Bome MIDI Translator can convert BMTP files to plain text (.TXT) files. To do so, select File → Export Project As Text.
