What is a MIIGX file?
A MIIGX file is a Nintendo Mii saved in a format used by savegame-manager-gx, a custom game save and Mii manager for the Nintendo Wii. MIIGX files contain a Mii extracted from a Nintendo Wii or a custom Mii created using a PC-based Mii modding program, such as My Avatar Editor.
More Information
Miis are customizable avatars that players use to represent themselves on various Nintendo game consoles, such as the Nintendo Wii. While most players are content to design Miis using the options available on their game console, some players enjoy modding their Miis using player-created, PC-based mod programs, such as My Avatar Editor.
Players who want to extract a Mii from their Wii, so they can mod that Mii on their computer, can do so using savegame-manager-gx. Savegame-manager-gx saves extracted Miis as MIIGX files. Savegame-manager-gx also allows players to import custom Miis to their Wii. Custom Miis must be saved as MIIGX files to be used with savegame-manager-gx.
NOTE: If you encounter a Mii saved in the .MAE format used by My Avatar Editor and want to use it with savegame-manager-gx, you can simply rename the file to use the .miigx extension. Then, you can import the Mii using savegame-manager-gx.
How to open a MIIGX file
You can use savegame-manager-gx to install a MIIGX file on your Nintendo Wii. Then, the Mii your MIIGX file contains will be usable on your Wii. To install savegame-manager-gx, you must first install the Homebrew Channel on your Wii.
You can also use various player-created tools to open and manipulate the Mii a MIIGX file contains on your PC. For example, you can use Mii Cloner (Windows) to clone your Mii, or you can use My Avatar Editor (Windows, Mac) to edit your Mii. Note that, to open your Mii in My Avatar Editor, you must rename the file to use the .mae extension.
