What is an M64 file?
An M64 file contains a recording of gameplay captured by Mupen64, a cross-platform Nintendo 64 (N64) emulator. It contains user inputs recorded during gameplay so that the exact gameplay can be replayed in the software by a user. M64 files also store metadata, such as the author and description of the reply.
You will most likely only encounter an M64 file if you utilize the Mupen64 emulator to play old Nintendo 64 games on your computer. The emulator creates an M64 file when a user selects Utilities → Movie in the emulator.
NOTE: M64 files do not contain actual video data.
How to open an M64 file
You can only open M64 files with Mupen64. It is available for Windows and Linux systems, and is also available for macOS through a port contributed by a user. To play an M64 file select Utilities → Movie.
