What is an LSA file?
An LSA file is a photo that a Xiaomi mobile phone user has hidden from their phone's Gallery app. When a user hides a photo in Gallery, the app encrypts the photo, moves it to a private folder, and changes its extension to .lsa. LSA files can be opened only from the Gallery app's private folder.
More Information
Xiaomi MIUI Gallery is the default photo and video gallery app installed on Xiaomi MIUI smartphones. In Gallery, users can choose to hide photos and videos, so other users cannot view those files. The exact steps used to hide photos and videos vary in different versions of Gallery, but they always involve:
- Selecting one or more photos or videos in Gallery.
- Moving the photos and videos to Gallery's private folder.
- Specifying a password or lock pattern used to prevent others from accessing the private folder.
As Gallery moves the selected photos and videos to its private folder (located at ~/MIUI/Gallery/cloud/secretAlbum), it encrypts them and changes their extensions to either .lsa (photos) or .LSAV (videos). Because these files are encrypted and password-protected, they can be opened only from within Gallery, by accessing your private folder.
How to open an LSA file
You can open an LSA file using the Gallery app on a Xiaomi mobile phone. To do so, navigate to Gallery's Albums screen and pull down until the Release to open private folder message appears. Then, release. Your phone will prompt you to enter the password or lock pattern associated with your private folder.
After you open your private folder, you can view and/or unhide the hidden photos and videos it contains. To unhide a file, select the file and then select Unhide.

An LSA file may also be a script created by IBM Lotus Domino Designer. It contains an agent, which is a program that performs a specific task in one or more databases. LSA files include information about the type of agent, where it will run, how it is invoked, what it will act upon, under whose ID it will run, and if it will perform unrestricted or restricted operations.
More Information
Agents are similar to scripts because they are used to automate tasks, whether they are database-wide or domain-wide. LSA files are used internally by Lotus Domino Designer to store agents. You will most likely not come across the LSA file but you can build and modify agents through the Domino Designer interface.
NOTE: Domino Designer was originally developed by Lotus Software before Lotus was acquired by IBM in 1995.
