A BRAIN file may also be a coglet file used by ProtoCog, a browser-based simulation developed by R74n in which users teach a virtual creature to communicate by talking to it. As a user interacts with the coglet, it learns patterns in the words and messages it receives and uses those patterns to generate responses. BRAIN files allow a user to save this learned information via the Export option in ProtoCog and reuse it.
More Information
ProtoCog uses an enhanced form of Markov chains to model the relationships between words and generate new sentences. BRAIN files preserve a coglet's learned data, such as its word and connection information, so users can transfer or restore a trained coglet rather than starting with an untrained one.
How to open a BRAIN file
You can open BRAIN files with ProtoCog via a web browser. The file is intended to be loaded into ProtoCog, so the game can restore the associated coglet and its learned information rather than being viewed directly in a text editor or other general-purpose application.
