What is a BAMTA file?
A BAMTA file is a metadata file used by a Nintendo Wii U or Switch video game. BAMTA files are located within .BARS (Binary Audio Resource Archive) files. Each BAMTA file contains metadata for a single audio file stored within the BARS file.
More Information
Various Nintendo-developed games for the Wii U and Switch use an audio framework known as AAL. These games' audio assets are stored in BARS files. Each BARS files also contains a set of BAMTA files, which denote various settings for their associated audio file.
For example, a BAMTA file denotes whether its associated audio file should be looped, how many channels the audio file contains, the audio file's default volume, and more. Examples of games that contain BAMTA files include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, ARMS, and games in the Splatoon and Super Mario Maker series.
How to open a BAMTA file
BAMTA files are not meant to be opened. Nintendo video games that use BAMTA files load and apply the settings they contain as needed.
