What is a SOE file?
Saved game file used by Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire (SWSOE), a video game for Windows and Nintendo 64; contains game progress data such as player lives, ammunition, and completed missions.

SOE files are stored in the subdirectory of the SWSOE installation directory. They are not meant to be edited manually, but the contents can be altered by a hex editor to change data, such as the number of lives you have, in order to "cheat" in the game.
