What is a WDB file?
Database created with the Microsoft Works database program; similar to an Access Database (.MDB file), but with more limitations; uses a proprietary data format that cannot be opened by MS Access.
More Information
To open a Works database in Access, first open the file in MS Works. Then export the database as a .DBF file. Then import the DBF file into MS Access.
NOTE: Some versions of WDB files can be converted to .CSV files and Excel spreadsheets using the Works Database Converter. However, some fields may not convert correctly.

A WDB file may also be a game resource archive for Mindscape LEGO Island that stores various assets, including 3D models and textures used by the game. It is saved in the proprietary LEGO Island World DataBase (WDB) format and distributed with LEGO Island (located in the installation directory). While players are not supposed to open WDB files, game modders may extract assets from WDB and alter them to modify gameplay.
More Information
Mindscape developed and published LEGO Island in 1997 for Windows. It is an open-world game where you play as a pizza delivery boy and the main objective is to stop Brickster (an escaped prisoner) from destroying the island. You can also explore the island, complete side quests, and build objects.
Most LEGO Island players will not encounter the WDB file since it is stored in the game installation directory. However, if you are looking to modify elements in the gameplay, you can find the WDB file in the following directory:
LEGO Island\lego\data\
Common WDB Filenames
WORLD.WDB - The only WDB file packaged with LEGO Island. It contains most of the 3D models for the game.
How to open a WDB file
You should not attempt to open WDB files. Instead, LEGO Island references WDB files to load their assets for gameplay.
Extracting assets from a WDB file
If you want to modify WDB files, you can attempt to extract assets, such as textures and 3D models, from WDB files with the WDBRipper utility (developed by Liam Brandt). If WDBRipper can extract the textures and 3D models, it will convert them to .GIF and .OBJ files and place them in folders named "gif" and "obj" in the folder in which the wdb_ripper.exe file is located.
