What is an SYW file?

An SYW file is a 16-bit audio sample used by either a Yamaha SY99 or SY85 synthesizer. Users could create SYW files and save them to a 3.5" floppy disk or RAM card. Users could also load pre-made SYW files from floppy disks or RAM cards.

More Information

In the early 1990s, Yamaha produced several synthesizers that function as digital music workstations (DAWs). These included the SY99 (released in 1991) and SY85 (released in 1992) synthesizers.

The SY99 and SY85 can create, load, and play audio samples saved in the SYW format. Users can also transfer SYW files to their PCs, for use in other audio applications.
