What is an SW3 file?
An SW3 file is a screenplay created using Cinovation Scriptware, a scriptwriting software previously available for Windows and Mac PCs. It contains text formatted using Scriptware's screenplay and scriptwriting tools. SW3 files can be opened only in Cinovation Scriptware.
More Information
Cinovation Scriptware is an old screenplay writing program that was available for Windows version 3 and old Mac PCs. Scriptware is no longer actively developed, so it cannot be installed in modern versions of Windows or macOS.
How to open an SW3 file
You can open SW3 files (Scriptware Screenplays) in Cinovation Scriptware (Windows, Mac). No other programs can open SW3 files. Scriptware is not compatible with newer versions of Windows and macOS, so you may have difficulty opening your SW3 files.
How do I convert SW3 files to other formats?
Provided you can open your SW3 files in Cinovation Scriptware, you can convert the files into ASCII text documents or Final Draft documents. To do so, select File → Export as... from Scriptware's menu bar, and then select either the ASCII or Tabbed (Final Draft) formats. You can open ASCII text documents in Microsoft Word and other word processing programs.

An SW3 file may also be a configuration file created by TAL Technologies WinWedge, a program used to collect data from RS232 instruments and automatically import it in other programs. It contains the configuration settings to connect to the RS232 instrument it is collecting data from, such as a sensor or scanner, and the application it is feeding the data to, such as Microsoft Excel or Access.
More Information
SW3 files are the primary file type associated with WinWedge. When you create the configuration, you can save it and reuse it instead of having to create the configuration from scratch again.
To create an SW3 file in WinWedge, select File → New, adjust the configuration, then select File → Save or Save As.... To open an SW3 file in WinWedge, select File → Open.... You can also double-click the file if you have WinWedge already installed on your computer. This method automatically opens WinWedge and loads the configuration.
NOTE: WinWedge can collect data from a variety of serial devices, including Ion meters, GPS receivers, gauges, spectrometers, conductivity meters, pH meters, and thermocouples.
