What is a PRC file?
A PRC file is a 3D model saved in the Product Representation Compact (PRC) format. It contains a 3D representation of a mechanical product or assembly. Previous versions of Adobe Acrobat allowed users to convert many 3D model file types to the PRC format, so the models could be embedded in .PDF files.
More Information
Adobe Systems developed the PRC file format to allow engineers, architects, and other CAD software users to more easily share 3D models with each other, as part of PDF-based documentation workflows. Each PRC file contains a product's structure, geometry, and product manufacturing information (PMI).
Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended 8 and 9 and Adobe Acrobat 3D allowed users to create PRC files and embed them in PDF files. Current versions of Acrobat do not allow users to create new PRC files, but they can still open, view, and embed previously-created PRC files.
How to open a PRC file
You can open a PRC file and view the model it contains in Adobe Acrobat (multiplatform), Adobe Reader (multiplatform), and Foxit Reader (Windows). You can also use Adobe Acrobat to embed a PRC file in a PDF, to more easily share the file with other users.

A PRC file may also be a character parameter file used by Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, a popular fighting game for the Nintendo Switch. It controls how in-game characters walk, run, jump, and land, as well as other characteristics. PRC files are used by fighters, assist, and spirit characters.
More Information
Each Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character is linked to a PRC file that controls how that character moves and functions within the game. For example, each playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is associated with the file named fighter_param.prc, which controls:
- How each playable character runs, walks, jumps, and lands
- Each playable character's weight and height
- Each playable character's shield radius and duration
Non-playable characters, such as assist and spirit characters, are also associated with PRC files. These characters' PRC files control what boosts they provide to playable characters.
Common PRC Filenames
fighter_param.prc - Controls playable characters' characteristics.
Generate_Param_Assist.prc - Controls the items assist characters generate.
How to open a PRC file
You can use the ParamXML utility included in paracobNET (Windows) or the parameter-editing tools available at Smash Ultimate Tools (Web) to open and edit PRC files. ParamXML also allows users to convert PRC files to .XML files.
If you want to use an edited PRC file to control playable characters' behavior in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, you must name the file fighter_param.prc and place it in the game's fighter/common/param directory.
