What is an LNX file?
An LNX file is an archive that contains one or more files that comprise a Commodore 64 game or program. It is packaged with the Lynx archiver program and is not compressed. Commodore 64 users often archived .D64 or .X64 files and any related files to upload to bulletin board systems (BBS) to share them with other computer enthusiasts.
More Information
Will Corley developed the Lynx (also known as LNX or Ultimate Lynx) format. The Lynx format was more common in the 1990s for uploading to a BBS but has since greatly decreased in usage due to the rise of other archiving formats, discontinuation of the Lynx archiver program, and the complexity of the Lynx format.

More Information
Atari Lynx is a handheld game console released in 1989. It featured an LCD color screen, 64 KB RAM, and support for various games, such as Ms. Pac-Man, Lemmings, Paperboy, and Desert Strike.
Lynx gaming enthusiasts utilize emulation software to play games on their computers without the Lynx gaming console. For example, nostalgic gamers who enjoyed the Lynx console in the 1990s use emulation software, such as Handy Emulator and Mednafen, to emulate Atari Lynx game ROMs.
Before being able to play a Lynx game with emulation software, gamers must dump game ROM data from a Lynx game cartridge onto their computer and save them as an LNX file. After saving them in the Lynx game ROM format, they can load and play the game saved as the LNX file with an emulator.
How to open an LNX file
You can open an LNX file with several Atari Lynx emulators, such as Handy Emulator (Windows and macOS) and Mednafen (Windows).
