What is a KMP file?
Course file used by the Mario Kart Wii, a Nintendo video game; contains course data divided into different sections, each describing different aspects of the course; includes start positions of racers, check points, camera positions, re-spawning positions, object positions, and other stage information.

To open the KMP file in the KMP Modifier, simply select File → Open, select your file, and click Open.
To create the KMP file in the KMP Modifier, select File → New, make your edits, select File → Save or Save As, choose the save location, and click Save.

A KMP file may also be a keymap file used by Korg synthesizers like the Triton, Trinity, M3, and Kronos workstations. It contains "multisample" data, which includes references to Sample files (.KSF) that store the actual sound waveforms and a map that assigns those sounds to specific keys on the keyboard. KMP files don't contain any audio themselves; they instead point to where the audio files are stored.

A Korg multisample is a collection of different sound samples, each representing a specific tone of an instrument. For example, if a user records the notes D4, C4, H4, and C5 from a piano, each of those notes becomes a sample, and together they form a multisample, which KMP files contain information about. The KMP file also includes settings that define how these samples are used, helping the synthesizer produce a realistic instrument sound.
