What is a BVD file?
A BVD file is an encrypted virtual drive created by Bitdefender, a cybersecurity application focused on antivirus and Internet security. It is a "vault" that typically contains sensitive or confidential documents and incorporates encryption and password protection to keep data secure from unauthorized access. Since July 2020, Bitdefender no longer supports the BVD Vault format.
More Information
When Bitdefender unlocks a BVD Vault, it appears as a virtual drive in the file system (e.g., "My Computer" or "This PC"). Once closed, the virtual drive disappears and Bitdefender protects the contents in the secure BVD file format once again.
NOTE: BVD stands for "Bitdefender Virtual Drive."
How to open a BVD file
Bitdefender software no longer supports BVD files. You can only recover your files locked in file vaults by extracting them with older Bitdefender versions.
