How to change what program opens a file in OS X

Method 1: Change what program opens an individual file

  1. Click a file, the select File → Get Info from the Finder menu. You can also right-click the file and select “Get Info” (⌘+I).
  2. Select the program from the drop down menu under “Open With.”

Method 2: Change what program opens all files of a certain file type

  1. Click a file, the select File → Get Info from the Finder menu. You can also right-click the file and select “Get Info” (⌘+I).
  2. Select the program from the drop down menu under “Open With.”
  3. Click “Change All…” under the drop down menu and select “Continue.”
