What is a ZXP file?
A ZXP file is an extension that adds additional capabilities to an Adobe software program, such as Adobe Photoshop or Adobe After Effects. Previously, ZXP files could be installed using Adobe Extension Manager. However, you must now install ZXP files using the Unified Plugin Installer Agent (UPIA) command-line tool included with the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application.
More Information
Adobe extensions are plug-ins that add new features to an Adobe program. Currently, Adobe users typically download and install extensions using the Creative Cloud Plugin Marketplace. However, in the past, users often downloaded and installed extensions using ZXP files and Adobe Extension Manager, a standalone extension management application.
ZXP files are saved in a zipped format that is decompressed when the extension is installed. If necessary, users can still retrieve the ZXP file of a Creative Cloud extension they've installed by:
- Logging in to Adobe Exchange.
- Navigating to My Exchange.
- Finding the extension for which they want to retrieve a ZXP file.
- Selecting Installation Help.
How to open a ZXP file
You can use the Unified Plugin Installer Agent (UPIA) command-line tool that is installed with the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application (Windows, Mac) to install the extension a ZXP file contains. To learn how, refer to Adobe's instructions for using the UPIA command-line tool.
