What is a ZI file?

A ZI file is a Zip archive that has been renamed from .zip to .zi. It contains one or more files compressed with Zip-compression in order to save space. ZI files are commonly used to bypass email filters that prevent the transmission of .ZIP files.

More Information

ZI files may be opened by renaming the .zi extension to .zip, then decompressing the file in any Zip-compatible decompression utility, such as Microsoft File Explorer, Corel WinZip, or Apple Archive Utility. After extracting the contents of the ZIP archive, compress the folder as a ZIP archive with the Zip-compression software and rename the .zip file extension to .zi.
