What is a XI file?
An XI file is an instrument used by various audio tracker apps, including Triton Fasttracker 2 and Milkytracker. It stores information about an instrument, such as a kick drum or piano, in the Extended Instrument (XI) format, which is similar to the .XM module format. XI files include envelope and LFO settings and one or more WAVE samples (one per channel).
More Information
Audio tracker apps, such as Fasttracker 2 and Milkytracker, allow you to arrange patterns and instruments to create a sequence that makes up a song. The instruments may fall into many different categories, including strings, brass, woodwinds, and synths. In addition, you can adjust various settings in XI instruments, including their volume, starting note, and default panning.
NOTE: Although Triton Productions no longer develops Fasttracker 2, other audio editors still support the format.
How to open a XI file
You can open an XI file Triton Fasttracker 2 in Windows. Third-party applications, such as Milkytracker (multiplatform), Image-Line FL Studio (Windows), and FMJ-Software Awave Studio (Windows) can also open XI files.
