What is a VHDPMEM file?
A VHDPMEM file is a persistent memory device created by Microsoft Hyper-V, a Windows virtualization program. It can be attached to a virtual machine to add persistent memory to that machine.
More Information
Hyper-V allows users to run multiple operating systems as virtual machines in Windows. It also allows users to create and manage virtualized software and hardware components. A VHDPMEM file is a virtualized hardware component.
Specifically, a VHDPMEM file contains a virtual persistent memory (aka storage class memory or NVDIMM) device. Hyper-V users create VHDPMEM files using the New-VHD cmdlet. During the creation process, the user can specify the device's size.
NOTE: The Windows Server 2016 and higher and Windows 10 and higher versions of Hyper-V support VHDPMEM files.
How to open a VHDPMEM file
VHDPEM files are not meant to be opened. To attach a VHDPEM file to a Hyper-V virtual machine, use the Add=VMHardDiskDrive cmdlet.
