What is a TIB file?

A TIB file is a disk image created by Acronis True Image. It contains an exact copy of a computer's hard disk, allowing the complete hard disk to be restored in the event of a system crash. TIB files might be a single backup or one of many incremental backups.

More Information

Acronis True Image 2020 and later versions save some large backups as .TIBX files instead of TIB files. However, you can still open and use TIB files in Acronis True Image 2020.

NOTE: In September 2021, Acronis renamed True Image to Cyber Protect Home Office.

How to open a TIB file

Provided you have Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (Windows, Mac) or Acronis Backup (Windows, Linux) installed on your PC, you should be able to open a TIB file and view its contents simply by double-clicking it. If you can't, you may want to try repairing or reinstalling the program.

How do I delete a TIB file?

If your TIB file was created by Acronis True Image 2017 or a later version or Acronis Backup 12.5, you may encounter an error message when attempting to delete the TIB file via Windows Explorer. The error is produced because Acronis's Self-protection feature does not allow users to delete TIB files outside Acronis True Image or Backup.

To circumvent this error message, use Acronis True Image or Backup to delete your TIB file.
