What is an SPASS file?

An SPASS file is a backup file created by Samsung Pass, a password manager for Samsung smartphones. It contains an encrypted copy of the login credentials (and other information) a user has saved in Samsung Pass. Samsung Pass users use SPASS files to transfer login credentials between devices.

More Information

Samsung Pass is a password manager that Samsung smartphone users can install on their phones. It allows users to store website and app login credentials, credit card information, and addresses, and use their fingerprint or iris to quickly enter that information in websites and apps.

Optionally, users can back up the information they've entered in Samsung Pass. To do so they:

  1. Open their phone's Settings menu.
  2. Select General management → Passwords and autofill.
  3. Select the Settings icon that appears next to Autofill with Samsung Pass.
  4. Verify their identity to log in to Samsung Pass.
  5. Tap the three-dot menu and select Settings → Export data to phone.
  6. Select the data they want to back up, enter a password used to encrypt the data, and finish exporting the data.

This backs up the user's Samsung Pass data in an SPASS file. Because SPASS files are encrypted, they can be opened and used only with Samsung Pass.
