What is a SITES2 file?
A SITES2 file is a project file created by iWeb, a web development application that doesn't require users to know HTML. It contains webpage layouts, text, and graphics. SITES2 files can be published to a live website when complete.

As iWeb users create websites, those websites are stored in SITES2 files. iWeb saves SITES2 files to the /[user]/Library/Application Support/iWeb directory without prompting users for a save location.
NOTE: iWeb is part of Apple's iLife application suite.
