What is a SIF file?
Configuration file that contains setup information for Windows NT and XP; contains parameters referenced during the Windows operating system installation process; includes the target path, user data, OEM status, display resolution, network settings, and other information.
More Information
The default name for the primary Windows SIF file is "winnt.sif." If this file cannot be found by the Windows installer, the installation process may not continue. If the SIF file is missing, the optical drive or installation disk may be faulty and should be cleaned or replaced.

A SIF file may also be a project created by Synfig Studio, an open source program used to create film-quality 2D animations. It contains an animation which includes a canvas populated with shapes, brush or pencil strokes, text, and position, angle, radius, width, tangent, and vertex handles.
More Information
SIF files are one of three file formats used by Synfig Studio. Since SIF files are uncompressed they tend to get pretty large. You can save your project as a .SIFZ file, which compresses its contents for a smaller file size. Synfig Studio also uses .SFG files for embedding images, audio, etc. into the project which is then compressed with Zip compression.
