What is an SH3L file?
An SH3L file is a localization file used by eTeks Sweet Home 3D. It is used to translate Sweet Home 3D's user interface strings and help text to another language. To use an SH3L file with Sweet Home 3D, you can either double-click the file or import it via Sweet Home 3D's Preferences menu.
More Information
Sweet Home 3D is a free application that allows users to create and view 2D and 3D home interior designs. It is available for several platforms and in a variety of languages.
To translate in-program text to different languages, Sweet Home 3D uses SH3L files. These files are renamed .ZIP archives that store:
- Several lists of translated user interface strings (saved in .properties files)
- Translated help text (saved in .html files)
Sweet Home 3D stores SH3L files in its languages directory. Optionally, users can download or create additional SH3L files and install them to add more languages to Sweet Home 3D.

How to open an SH3L file
To use an SH3L file with Sweet Home 3D:
- Open the Preferences menu.
- Select the import button that appears next to the Language: field.
- Navigate to and import your SH3L file.
Sweet Home 3D will then use the language settings your SH3L file contains.
If necessary, you can also decompress an SH3L file as you would any ZIP archive, to extract its contents. Before doing so, you may have to rename the SH3L file to use the .zip extension.
