What is a SET file?

A SET file contains properties used by Xerox Document Library software, which organizes documents into virtual "cabinets" on a computer. It stores property sets that can be applied to cabinets created by Xerox FreeFlow software.

More Information

Properties contain descriptive information about documents. When a Library Search is performed, documents can be selected based on their properties, which makes finding documents easier. This helps make large databases of documents more manageable.

SET files are created by the Library Administration Tool, which is part of Xerox FreeFlow Software package. To create a new Property Set, click the "Cabinets and Properties" tab, then select "New Property Set" from the toolbar.

A SET file may also be a settings file that stores various configuration settings and other preferences. It may be created and used by a variety of programs such as Corel Painter, Autodesk AutoCAD, Nikon Capture, XANA Web browser, Sibelius music notation software, Diablo II, and Alpha Five.

More Information

You most likely will only encounter a SET settings file when navigating the installation directory of the program that created or uses the file. The file is referenced by the program and should not be opened manually. It is typically loaded by the application when the program is opened. Also, you should not move or delete the SET file because it may cause the program to function incorrectly.

Set Dictionary file created by Alpha Five, an IDE that enables users to develop Web, desktop, and mobile applications; contains a list of all the forms attached to the set and a record entry for every linking definition; created along with .SEM and .SEX linked set files.

More Information

When two or more tables are linked together in Alpha Five, a set, which consists of a SET, SEM, and SEX file is created. These files make up the set data dictionary for the two or more tables linked together. The dictionary stores reports, forms, and any other objects linked to the set. SET files should be kept with the SEM and SEX Set Data Dictionary files in order for Alpha to find all of the elements and their pieces.

NOTE: In 2013, Alpha Five became Alpha Anywhere.

Common SET Filenames

[Name of your set].set - When you create the set, the SET file will be created with the same name as the related SEM and SEX files.

A SET file may also be a settings file used by some video games in the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) series. It contains configuration information that determines how the game functions and appears. For example, a game's SET file specifies its resolution. GTA 3, GTA: Vice City, and GTA: San Andreas all use a SET file.

More Information

Each GTA game that uses a SET file automatically creates the file at installation and places it in the game's User Files directory. For example, you can find GTA: San Andreas's SET file in the following directory:

C:\Users\[username]\Documents\GTA San Andreas User Files

If you delete a game's SET file, your current settings will be lost. However, at next launch, the game will automatically create a new SET file that uses default settings.

Common SET Filenames

gta_sa.set - Default name given to GTA: San Andreas's SET file.

How to open a SET file

SET files are saved in a proprietary format and not meant to be opened by players. Instead, you can modify game settings by selecting Options from the game's main menu.
