What is an SBC file?

An SBC file is a data file created by Space Engineers, a sandbox game used to engineer and construct spaceships to explore and survive space and planets. It may contain various types of data, such as blueprint information for ships, stations, or rovers, a descriptions of worlds, or sound definitions. SBC files are saved in XML format.

If the SBC contains blueprint information it includes the position of blocks and capabilities of the ship, station, rover, or other construct. If the SBC contains sound definitions, it includes the location of one or more sound files played during gameplay, volume levels, if it loops, and other information.

SBC files containing descriptions of worlds are stored in the following directory with several other files:

C:\​Users\​[User]\​AppData\​Roaming\​SpaceEngineers\​Saves\​[Your Steam ID]\​

You can open and modify an SBC file using a plain text editor or XML editor. However, you may need to rename the ".sbc" extension to ".xml" in order to open the file in a plain text or XML editor.
