What is a PXM file?
A PXM file is an image file created by Pixelmator Classic and Pixelmator, image-editing apps for macOS and iOS. It is the native format for saving images in Pixelmator Classic and Pixelmator. PXM files include image layers, masks, annotations, and other adjustments.
More Information
Pixelmator is a Mac- and iOS-only image editor that allows you to enhance or touch up photos, digitally draw and paint, and add text, shapes, and effects to images. When you save images you have created or edited with Pixelmator, the app saves them as PXM files.
PXM images consist of one or more layers, which contain image elements. For example, a PXM file might include a background image layer, a shape layer, and a text layer. You can edit each of these layers individually and continue to edit the layers after closing and re-opening the file.
How to open a PXM file
You can open a PXM file with Pixelmator Classic, Pixelmator Pro, and Pixelmator for iOS. For example, to open a PXM file in Pixelmator Classic, select File → Open... from the program's menu bar. Then, navigate to and open your PXM file.
While you can open a PXM file with Pixelmator Pro, you cannot save an image as a PXM file with Pixelmator Pro. Instead, Pixelmator Pro converts the file to a .PXD file.
