What is a PRSL file?
A PRSL file is a video title style library created by Adobe Premiere Pro, a professional video editing application. It contains XML-formatted information about one or more styles that can be applied to titles (stored in .PRTL files), such as headings, intros, and lower-thirds, in a video production. Styles include the font, color, and other text properties, such as drop shadow, bold, and italic.
More Information
You can apply different styles to titles in Premiere Pro to maintain a consistent aesthetic throughout the production. PRSL files allow you to store your various styles so you can access them. You can also export and share PRSL files with other Premiere Pro users, who can then import them to stylize text in their projects.
Where do I find PRSL Style Library files?
Premiere Pro comes bundled with PRSL files, but you may also create custom styles and export them as PRSL files. Bundled PRSL files are saved in the following location:
- Windows - Adobe\Premiere Pro\[version]\Styles
- macOS - Adobe Premiere Pro [version]/Contents/Presets/Styles
Premiere Pro also stores your default working styles in the workingset.prsl file, which is located in the following location:
- Windows - C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Adobe\Premiere Pro\[version]\Profile-[username]\Styles
- macOS - Users/[username]/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Pro/[version]/Profile-[username]/Styles
How do I save PRSL Style Library files?
Adobe began phasing out PRSL styles and the PRTL title files they styled when it released Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2017. Premiere Pro now directs you to save titles and their respective styles as .MOGRT files (select Graphics → Export As Motion Graphics Template...).
However, Premiere Pro still supports legacy titles and styles. In Premiere Pro 2022, you can save styles in a PRSL library file by selecting File → New → Legacy Title..., clicking the three-line hamburger icon in the "Legacy Title Styles" pane, and selecting Save Style Library....
How to open a PRSL file
You can open PRSL files with Adobe Premiere Pro in the Legacy Titler. To open a PRSL file, select File → New → Legacy Title..., click the three-line hamburger icon in the "Legacy Title Styles" pane, and select Append Style Library... or Replace Style Library.... The style library you opened should now be visible in the "Legacy Title Styles" pane.
You can also open PRSL files with an XML or source code editor since the file stores information in the XML standard. However, we advise you not to manually edit a PRSL file with an XML or source code editor since the modifications may corrupt the file.
