What is a PAQ6 file?
A PAQ6 file is a compressed archive created by version 6 of PAQ, an open-source archiving utility. It contains one or more files that have been compressed using PAQ6's unique compression algorithm. For example, a PAQ6 file might contain several document, image, and/or executable files.
More Information
PAQ is a "data compression archiver" available for Windows and Linux. Developer Matt Mahoney released the first version of PAQ in 2002. Mahoney released the sixth version of PAQ, better known as PAQ6, in 2004.
Notably, PAQ6 allows users to specify the amount of memory needed to compress and decompress an archive. The more memory used, the higher the archive's compression ratio (and the slower the archive is compressed/decompressed).
How to open a PAQ6 file
You can use PAQ version 6 (PAQ6) to extract the files a PAQ6 archive contains. For complete instructions on how to use PAQ6, refer to the program's documentation.
