An MFP file may also be an offline print job file created for use with a Markforged 3D printer. Markforged Eiger users can export 3D printing instructions in an MFP file, to print without an Internet connection. Only a printer that is linked to the account used to create an MFP file can load that MFP file.
More Information
Markforged sells many industrial- and military-grade 3D printers, including the Metal X, X3, X5, and X7. Those who purchase Markforged printers are given access to Markforged Eiger, the company's proprietary slicing software. To use a printer with Eiger, users must create a Markforged account and link it with that printer. Primarily, users access and use Eiger online via their web browser. (Markforged also provides a desktop version of Eiger.)
If a user does not want to print a sliced model directly from Eiger, they can instead export the commands used to print that model as an MFP file. An MFP file contains typical G-Code instructions, encrypted such that only a printer linked to the user's Markforged account can load the file. This prevents other Markforged users from printing the item an MFP file describes.
How to open an MFP file
MFP files are not meant to be opened. If you have access to a Markforged 3D printer linked to the account used to create your MFP file, you can load the file on that printer. To do so, place the file in a USB drive's root directory, connect the drive to your Markforged printer, and select Storage → Print From Storage from the printer's menu. Then, select your MFP file.
