What is an LPD file?

File used by IBM AIX systems and other UNIX systems; has the filename hosts.lpd and specifies print permissions for individual computers or groups of computers; allows system administrators to create fine-grained access control policies for networked printers.

More Information

LPD files are used by the lpd daemon, a service that processes print requests. When a print request arrives, the lpd daemon creates a process that checks both the hosts.lpd file and the hosts.equiv file in the /etc/ directory. Using these files, the daemon determines whether the print request is allowed.

NOTE: LPD files can be edited with any text editor.
