An IMD file contains a disk image of a floppy disk, which is also known as diskette. It stores an exact copy of the disk image of the floppy disk and includes information about the disk format. IMD files are typically created by ImageDisk, an MS-DOS based disk imaging utility used to archive and recreate various floppy disk formats.

More Information

ImageDisk may create IMD files from a variety of floppy disk formats but they must be compatible with PC 765 floppy diskette controller and drives. While IMD files are typically created by ImageDisk, they may also be created and manipulated by pyImageDisk.
