What is an IDV file?
An IDV file is a Design View file created by Autodesk Inventor, a 3D CAD mechanical design tool. It stores a snapshot view of an assembly (.IAM) file, which is used to review the assembly. IDV files include component visibility, viewing angles, magnification, and colors.
More Information
Inventor Design Views can be either public or private. Public design views can be associative, meaning they are stored in the assembly file and updated alongside the drawing. Private design views, on the other hand, are not associative and are always exported as IDV files, which capture a snapshot of the drawing at a particular time.
How to open an IDV file
You can open an IDV file in Autodesk Inventor (Windows). To do so, select File → Open from Inventor's menu bar. Then, navigate to and open your IDV file.
