What is an HLX file?
An HLX file is a support file associated with ATI (now AMD) Radeon video cards that helped manage video driver functions. ATI video drivers referenced the information in HLX files to ensure proper communication between the operating system and the Radeon graphics hardware to maintain smooth video performance and display output, especially for graphics-intensive activities, such as gaming and video editing.
More Information
ATI launched Radeon video cards in 2000 to be their consumer 3D accelerator add-in cards. The Radeon line of products was ATI's premiere offering, directly competing with Nvidia's GeForce.
Since AMD acquired ATI in 2006, it has deprecated the HLX format, making HLX files obscure. When in use, HLX files worked with other driver files to optimize the functionality of the Radeon video card.
How to open an HLX file
HLX files are referenced by the ATI video driver and are not meant to be opened manually.
