What is a FAP file?
A FAP file is an app for a Flipper device, such as the Flipper Zero. Flipper users can load FAP files to run the apps they contain. To load a FAP file, Flipper users place it on their device's SD card and then load it from the device's App Loader application.
More Information
Flipper Zero is a compact, multi-purpose penetration testing, system exploration, and hacking tool. It contains a plethora of hardware and software that allows it to, for example, act as a remote, analyze signals, read iButton contact keys, and connect to various hardware systems.
Users can extend Flipper Zero's functionality by installing add-on application packages, saved as FAP files. These files are essentially .ELF (Executable and Linkable Format) files that contain additional Flipper-specific resources and metadata. To create FAP files, developers use the Flipper Build Tool (FBT), which is included in Flipper Zero's firmware.
How to open a FAP file
To run the app a FAP file contains:
- Place it on your Flipper Zero's SD card.
- Insert the SD card into Flipper Zero.
- Use Flipper Zero's App Loader to load your FAP file.
The App Loader will then start the application your FAP file contains.

A FAP file may also be an audio file saved in the Ensoniq PARIS audio format (PAF). It contains audio recorded by Ensoniq PARIS, a digital audio workstation (DAW) that was released in 1998 but is now discontinued. FAP files are more commonly saved as .PAF files.
More Information
While PARIS is now discontinued, the software and the PAF format continue to be used by audio enthusiasts. The PAF format is the native format used by PARIS to save audio projects.
The DAW allows users to save their audio projects as PAF files by default, or as .WAV or .SD2 audio files. While the PAF format is primarily saved in audio files with the .paf extension, the format may also be saved in files with the .fap extension.
How to open a FAP file
You can open FAP files with VLC media player in Windows, macOS, and Linux. Or you can upload your FAP files to an online conversion application and convert them to a more common format. Some online conversion applications include OnlineConvert FAP to WAV and Convertio Online FAP Converter.
