What is an E01 file?
Forensics disk image file created by EnCase, a forensics software application; saves an exact copy of the contents extracted from a subject device's disk; can be mounted and read by EnCase or another program that supports the E01 format.

E01 files are used for storing sensitive information for digital forensics, cyber security, and e-discovery. They can be used in some judicial settings for preserving and presenting digital evidence.
