Video information file generated by a Samsung CCTV recording system; contains information about a corresponding .BU video file.

DB2 files are saved with BU files in the same directory and have the same filename, expect for the extension. For example, a video recording may generate the files 12300000.bu and 12300000.db2. These files should not be separated since they are both read by Samsung video recording software.

A DB2 file may also be a database file created by dBASE II, an older version of the dBASE database development software. It is similar to dBASE 1 databases that preceded it but supports additional data types. DB2 files are obscure since the following versions of dBASE use the .DBF format to save databases.

dBASE II (or dBase II) debuted in 1982 as a successor to the original dBASE software. The software has gone through many updates to the modern iteration. Developers dropped support for DB2 files throughout those updates in favor of the standard DBF format.
NOTE: dBASE stands for "dataBased Intelligence."
How to open a DB2 file
You can open DB2 files with earlier versions of dBASE software, such as dBASE II. Modern versions of dBASE do not support DB2 files.
