What is a CERBER3 file?
A CERBER3 file is a virus file that is used by the Cerber ransomware virus. It contains a user's file that has been encrypted, holding it ransom until the user pays the creator of the virus.
More Information
The Cerber virus is packaged as a trojan horse in order to trick the user into installing it on their computer. It may be distributed through a fake website or a link in an email. Once the virus is opened and installed, it takes over the computer, encrypting files (documents, pictures, videos, etc.) and appending the "cerber3" extension. The files can only be opened once the user pays the ransom, usually Bitcoin, to the creator.
How to open a CERBER3 file
Various security programs can detect and remove the Cerber virus. However, these programs typically cannot restore CERBER3 files to their original state. Your best option for restoring your files is to retrieve an uninfected copy of them from a recent backup.
Warning
FileInfo.com recommends you never pay a ransom to decrypt files encrypted by ransomware. Paying a ransom encourages ransomware distributors to continue their efforts, and there is no guarantee that paying a ransom will give you access to your files. Instead, you should restore your data from a recent backup created before the ransomware infected your computer.
